October 9, 2012

I was born by the river in a little tent

And just like that river I’ve been running ever since

It’s been a long time coming

But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will

Released in 1964, but the change Sam Cooke sung for is still in non-existence.

With the word, Racism,

Not losing any of its sting.

The only difference from then to now,

Is that, people see shades of the darkness of the skin.

But it all still leads to the same hatred from within,

No place is safe so with the River I run,

Places where Ice Tea and Skittles,

Justify the shot of a gun.

The Revolution will not be televised.

My people, the revolution must be live.

Sad to say but its between, life and death.

Either remaining silent or spitting out your words til you’re out of breath.

It’s been too hard living, but I’m afraid to die

Cos I don’t know what’s out there beyond the sky

It’s been a long, a long time coming

But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will

Helpless, hopeless, no where to turn,

Drop down to my knees and pray to the higher Being up above.

But as I look up to the sky,

The clouds float by, childhood happiness fills the air.

Then I look down and break to reality,

Where brutality,

Becomes the normality.

When is the change gonna come?

A world where violence, drugs, and hard times don’t exist,

When is it gonna come?

The return of human morality is long overdue.

I go to the movie

And I go down town

somebody keep telling me don’t hang around

Its been along time coming

But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will

The price of a movie ticket, about $9.50.

But the only price tag,

On the bodies in the body bags,

Are the little name tags,

That the mortician stuck on their toes.

Aurora, a name that meant nothing to me,

Became the thorn in my side,

Mad to see that an American pastime, turned upside,

Down. But the what the heck do you expect?

A country where people have no respect,

Human life is like that of an insect.

It crawls along the arm,

One sensation of feeling and you cause that bug harm.

Life, is gone.

Then I go to my brother

And I say brother help me please

But he winds up knockin’ me

Back down on my knees

You win your nation a gold medal,

And aint it some shit that they can only think about your hair.

The momentum accelerator hits it’s the brake pedal,

Your inner thoughts become meddle.

What’s hair got to do with one’s physical ability?

A moment where support is needed,

In true American fashion,

Turns to a moment of

Unnecessary, irrelevant controversy.

Its time to be set free,

From the social constraints of what you should be.

The American Dream, doesn’t exist in this society.

There were times when I thought I couldn’t last for long

But now I think I’m able to carry on

It’s been a long, a long time coming

But I know a change gone come, oh yes it will

My First Time…

June 4, 2012

The title probably reeled you in but this post is not what you are thinking. Currently, I am in Italy studying abroad for 6 weeks. I know many people like to keep blogs for when they travel to keep track of their adventures but since my blog is already in existence, I thought it would be a good idea to keep track of all the things I’ve done for the first time while abroad. And in true Chloe’s World nature, this post will come in the form of a list because you all know how much I like lists.

My First Time…

1. Swam in the Meditteranean

2. Ate at the Hard Rock Cafe

3. Ate veal

4. Went to a Hookah Bar

5. Saw a prostitute and a pimp

6. Went to/got into a bar

7. Met and had a convo with a transgendered female

8. Held a whole conversation in Italian

9. Participated in karaoke

10. Ate pesto

11. Fell asleep on my laptop

12. Went to a black sand beach

13. Had espresso

14. Had chicken wings from McDonald’s and Burger King.

15. Ate fig the fruit

Legit had the time of my life in Italia. I will never forget this summer.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 24,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 9 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Summer

April 1, 2011

I write better than I speak,

Some people think it’s because I’m meek.

I just don’t know, how to ‘say what I need to say’,

I should listen to John Mayer as I start my day.

Born in the month of May,

But my heart is in July.

Boi, do I love summer, laying in the grass, gazing up at the sky.

Warmth of the sun on my skin.

Warmth of the heart within

Thoughts of my future begin.

My words tell my past, present, and forthcoming,

Constantly playing out of my fingertips into a pen like an African boi drumming.

I have big dreams to give the people I love what they deserve.

My road to achieve these dreams full of curves,

With determination that sometimes suffocates my heart.

Waiting for something spectacular like Picasso’s art.

Knock on a friend’s door to awaken their dreams,

But nothing these days, is what it seems.

My thoughts circle around, all in a ring.

Equal them up and they come to three things.

Me, Myself, and I.

The three who’ll be there when I die.

The three that will help me touch the sky.

No more laying in the grass, gazing up.

No more settling for half purified water in my cup.

Turning my dreams into reality,

With a ‘not letting rain ruin my new Uggs’ mentality.

The thoughts from summer, oh I how love.

So pure and genuine like a dove sent from above,

Like Angels I can’t see but feel,

I’m sorry, but I sold my soul and made a deal.

I only fear God and Him alone,

So when the devil calls, I don’t answer the phone.

It gets colder out and the ground more wet,

Can’t sit in the grass, but can’t leave my spot just yet.

Look up at the clear sky, one last time,

I don’t know what I’m searching to find.

But when Fall starts, I’m back on the grind,

So I might as well enjoy nature untouched by mankind.

Summer and people, two things from which I part,

But Summer always returns because its eternal in my heart.

7 Things You Should Know About Walking On Locust Walk

October 5, 2010

Every single day, hundreds of people walk on Locust Walk (main pedestrian walkway at UPenn) to get to the library, class, their home, or to the dining halls. Everyone has a destination and a purpose to be there. So why the hell do some people stroll like they are just taking a walk in the park? Some people just don’t understand that people are in a rush and they need to keep moving. Here are the 7 things everyone at UPenn and people who come to visit need to know about walking on Locust Walk.

1. Slow walkers need to walk on the outside of the path to allow those who need to pass enough space to get around.

2. No texting while walking either stop on the outside of the walkway to text or constantly look up to prevent bumping into people.

3. When greeting a friend on Locust Walk, DO NOT STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF PATH. You are taking up space, therefore slowing up traffic.

4. Do not randomly stop and duck in the opposite direction. Nine times out of ten, there will be someone walking behind you. Stopping suddenly and turning around will cause a major collision.

5. When someone is attempting to pass you, do not speed up and try to stay in front of them. That is how a bitch gets cut.

6. Try to walk in a straight line. Constant swerving will cause you to mess up someone else’s walking path therefore causing feelings of ill will, possible curse words, and/or a collusion.

7. Locust Walk is very uneven. If you trip while walking, brush it off quickly and keep it moving to prevent a traffic jam.

This list will probably expand as I spend more and more time on Locust Walk, which isn’t a good thing. And this doesn’t happen just here; in high school, the same things would happen when walking in the hallways. People just need to keep others in mind. Basically, what I am saying is that if you use Locust Walk and keep in mind this post, you’ll be doing yourself and the walkers around you a favor.

Im gonna start of will some bad news: Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have called it quits. My favorite funny people couple have decided to end their five year relationship. I thought they were going to get married! Well I still have my Brangelina.

Josie Brooklyn Duggar has finally left the hospital toady after four months and a two month premature birth. Josie is number 19 for the Duggar clan and if you do not know who they are, I suggest putting your television to channel TLC where ’19 Kids and Counting’ is shown on the regular. The Arkansas based family believe that children are gifts from God, so they continue to pop them out each year with the added bonus of all their names beginning with  Js. They are gonna have to stop at some point because Josie is already a Aunty at 4 months old. When grandchildren and your own children begin to overlap, I think its time to stop. Can you name them all?

Wezzy F. Baby blogs from behind bars. Lil Wayne has set up a blog via his management team in which he is able to express his thoughts to the public and to his kids. On the website, Weezy Thanx You, Wayne addresses fans whom have written to him since he started his 8 month jail stint for gun possession. He does have a lot of time on his hands so why not? All Lil Wayne news and apparel can be found on this site (link is above) and they even included a countdown of when he will be released! #FreeWeezy. You too can write a letter to the YM CEO, you never know he might respond. Address is below:

So it has just been announced that Drake’s highly anticipated  first album, ‘Thank Me Later’, will drop June 15th. Reviews of the album have all come back positive but if you are looking for the typical Drizzy Drake Rogers sound, you will be pleasantly surprised. The album seems to have more of a R&B vibe than rap but from what I have been hearing the public will be greatly satisfied.

It has also been announced that Rihanna will be going on a world tour this summer bringing along with her two newcomers, Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj, for the ‘Last Girl on Earth Tour’. Although, Nicki Minaj is only a newcomer to mainstream music (she has been underground for years), the public will finally get a chance to see/hear for themselves what the buzz is all about. Also, kids 17 years and younger will finally get a chance to see the Southside Jamaica Queens native in a venue that is not off limits to them (she usually only performs at clubs). Ke$ha will also have an opportunity to prove herself. Her crazy energy she puts into her songs and her outfits will come in handy as she puts together a set that I personally believe will be very high energy and will surely get the crowd hype. Rihanna is Rihanna so there is nothing left to say about the headliner. This might be the concert of the summer 2010.

Dr. Dre is a Boston Red Sox Fan! And to prove his love for the team, he has join forces with them to create a special edition of his headphones ‘Beats by Dr. Dre’. While I have been convincing my parents to buy me a pair, Dr. Dre has teamed up with Lady Gaga, Diddy, and now the Boston Red Sox to create limited additions of his headphones. The cheapest pair run for $150 but for the quality of headphones you are getting, its all worth it.
