If you haven’t notice, I am quite a watch fiend. It all started in 4th grade, when my grandma bought me my first watch and ever since then I have slowly upgraded. My first watch was a water proof fossil watch, it was digital and purple. I relied on only this watch to tell time and found myself becoming confused when I looked at analog watches. My mother say this and bought me a swimmer analog watch and its a good thing she did because that is how I learned how to tell time. I had this pink analog watch until junior year, so for a very long time. This watch had taken quite a beating though. The original band had broke so I replaced in with a cloth Brooks Brothers one, the battery had died on my twice and the face of it had been nicked so many times that I had to clean it every other day to get the scratches out. My second watch was a ‘learning experience’. A little after I got my second ‘everyday wear’ watch, I got a gold and silver analog watch for special occasions. I would have to say that this watch looks quite nice on my wrist when I get all dressed up.
At the end of junior year, it was time for a new watch. I moved on to the Swiss company, Swatch. I got a blue analog Swatch Watch with a London scene on it. Most people called the watch a little kids watch but I beg to differ. Even though scenes on the watches may seem ‘childlike’, Swatch Watches is serious business. The company currently has a special Van Gogh exhibition at the National Museum of History in Taipei, where the watches are only sold. The three watches include Starry Night, Irises, and Terrance at a Cafe at Night (Van Gogh’s most famous works). These special edition watches go for $95 each. Quite expensive for a little kids watch, don’t you think? Celebrities like Katy Perry, Kelly Osbourne and Sean Kingston all don the Swiss company’s watches.
My current watch that I got 2 months ago is a G shock watch made by Casino, the same company that made my scientific calculator. This is a digital waterproof watch with tons of features on it, which I haven’t been able to figure out yet. This watch runs for $100 a pop but with discounts you can get it for $85. Celebrities like Asher Roth, Kayne West, Lady Gaga, and Pharrell Williams all don this watch. Now that I got the watch, I have noticed it everywhere but up until 2 months ago, I have never heard of it. So far this is my favorite watch because it tells me the exact time (to the second), the date, and the day.
Now on to my future with watches. My goal in life is to make enough money to buy a Z shock watch. A Z shock is a diamond and gold studded G shock watch worth $1,000 a pop. These watches are sweet! One day I’ll be able to afford one maybe three, but until then I’ll rock my regular G shock with pride.
